Owls Set for Road Test at Georgia State

Oct. 27, 2008

KENNESAW, Ga.--The Kennesaw State volleyball team will try for a fourth win in a row tomorrow when it travels to downtown Atlanta to take on Georgia State. Match time is set for 5:30 p.m. at the GSU Sports Arena.

For the Owls, Tuesday's match marks a return to the site of the first match in KSU program history. The Owls fought hard that night, pushing the second game into extra points, but eventually lost 3-0 to the home team. Georgia State came to the KSU Convocation Center last year, taking another 3-0 win over the Owls.

This season has almost been a tale of two halves for the Owls. At the end of the first half of the Atlantic Sun Conference's double round robin schedule on October 11, the Owls were 1-9 in conference play and sported a 2-16 overall record. Since then, the Owls have gone 3-1 in A-Sun matches, losing in four sets to Mercer (including a 29-27 loss in the deciding set) and earning consecutive wins over USC Upstate, East Tennessee State, and Campbell.

In KSU's last match, junior Asjia Stokes had a .609 hitting percentage to lift the Owls to a 3-0 (26-24, 26-24, 25-21) victory over Campbell in Buies Creek, N.C. Redshirt sophomore Sabrita Gulley had 11 kills, while junior Ginny Frederick and freshman Rachael Albright combined for 29 assists.

Georgia State will enter with a record of 1-21 overall, riding a six match losing streak into the contest. The only win of the season for the Panthers came October 4 against UNC Wilmington.

GSU wrapped up a four-match road trip on Saturday with a 3-0 loss to Delaware. Included in the road trip was a 3-1 loss to Hofstra where the Panthers led the final set 24-16 before losing the set 28-26 and the match, 3-1.

Ashley Jones leads the Panthers with a 2.57 kills per set average. The sophomore outside hitter/setter has three triple-doubles on the season.

Admission to the GSU Sports Arena is free for all fans wishing to attend.

Following Tuesday's match, the Owls will head to Florida for a pair of matches. KSU will take on Florida Gulf Coast this Friday at 7:30 p.m. in Fort Myers before heading to DeLand to face Stetson on Saturday at 5:00 p.m.
