Owls Continue A-Sun Trip in Florida
Sept. 12, 2008
KENNESAW, Ga.--The Kennesaw State University volleyball team will make a quick trip to the northeast corner of Florida for a pair of Atlantic Sun Conference matches this weekend. The Owls will leave Friday morning for a 7:00 p.m. contest with North Florida before making the short drive over to Jacksonville University and a match with the Dolphins on Saturday afternoon. KSU is 0-1 in A-Sun play (1-6 overall) after a 3-1 loss to Mercer on Tuesday night in Macon. The Owls won a set from the Bears for the first time in program history, but Mercer came back to take the final three sets in a very competitive contest. Asjia Stokes led the Owls with 10 kills in the match, while Chelsey Denesha and Maja Kostic each had nine. UNF (3-3, 1-0 A-Sun) and Jacksonville (2-4, 0-1) started A-Sun play with a heated match on Tuesday night. The Ospreys came away with a win in four sets in front of a school-record crowd of 1,109 fans. Kaley Read was one of three players in double-figures in kills, posting a match-high 16. The Dolphins were led Abby Gruenbacher's 12 kills. The Owls defeated UNF last season for the first road win in program history. Jacksonville has won both matches with the Owls since the KSU program first stepped on the court in 2006. After Saturday's match, the Owls will return home to step out of conference play with a match against Wofford this Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. |
