Owls Set to Open Season

Aug. 31, 2008

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.--Kennesaw State's volleyball team will open up the 2008 season today when the Owls face Air Force this afternoon at 2:00 p.m. EDT (12:00 MDT). KSU will then return to the Clune Arena court at 5:00 p.m. locally to face the University at Buffalo.

KSU welcomes eight new Owls to the nest as the third-year program tries to build on last season's 4-24 season. Under head coach Valerie Jones, the Owls went 2-9 in Atlantic Sun Conference action. The Owls return five starters off of last season's team and seven letterwinners altogether.

The Owls will open the season against an Air Force Falcons team that went 7-24 in the 2007 season. The Falcons add four players to the roster for this year to replace seven players off of last year's squad. Air Force went 0-16 last season in the Mountain West Conference, getting swept in all but one match. The Falcons will play 19 of their 29 regular season matches at home this season. This will be the first meeting between the Owls and the Falcons on the volleyball court.

In KSU's second match of the day, the Owls will take on the University at Buffalo Bulls. The Bulls went 2-31 last season, with a 1-15 record in the Mid-American Conference. Head coach Jim Lodes welcomes four newcomers to this year's team. This will also be the first meeting all-time between the Owls and the Bulls.

Gametracker will be available for KSU's match with the Falcons. Video streaming will also be available for the Air Force match, in addition to audio from KAFA.
