Down the "Home" Stretch
April 3, 2008
KENNESAW, Ga. - Coming off three straight losses, the Kennesaw State women's tennis team is set to return home for a four-match Atlantic Sun Conference homestand, beginning this weekend with matches against Jacksonville and North Florida. The Owls (5-9, 1-6) will welcome the Dolphins (13-4, 7-1) to the KSU Tennis Complex at 3 p.m. on Friday followed by the Ospreys (9-10, 6-2) on Saturday at 11 a.m. Jacksonville is currently second in the A-Sun while UNF comes in at fourth. Kennesaw State, which has been ravaged by injuries at the top of its lineup this season, hope for the return of junior Mercedes Cobos this weekend. "We started the season off with a very deep roster, but now with six matches remaining, we are struggling to find combinations that produce success," said Kennesaw State head coach Brandon Padgett. "Our girls realize that they must really step it up to end the season strong." The Owls have been forced to use a multitude of different lineups this spring, including four different No. 2 players. They have also ran out three different No. 1 doubles teams in response to the rash of injuries. JU is 2-1 over its last three matches and coming off of a 6-1 win over Florida Gulf Coast. UNF is scheduled for a Friday meeting with Mercer in Macon before heading up I-75 for its showdown with the Owls. The Black and Gold's homestand will continue on Monday April 7th, as they are scheduled to make up a match with Lipscomb that was postponed due to inclement weather. The stretch at home will wrap up with a meeting with the Mercer Bears at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, April 9th. |
