Tucker Named to All-Region Team

Dec. 12, 2006

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Kennesaw State's Laura Tucker was named to the 2006 Soccer Buzz Magazine All-Southeast Region Team in an announcement made by the organization on Monday evening.

Tucker led the Owls to the Atlantic Sun Conference regular season title this senior season and was named the league's Most Valuable Player. The native of Tuscaloosa, Alabama led the A-Sun in nearly every offensive category this season including goals and points.

The Kennesaw State senior, who had 12 goals in 16 games, finished the year as one of the most prolific scorers in the country. Tucker finished 16th in the nation with 1.75 points per game and 14th in the NCAA with 0.75 goals per game.

Tucker suffered through a painful beginning of the year as she scored just once in the Owls first seven games of the year. Suffering through an ailing knee, Tucker finished the year with eight goals in her last six games.

She scored two goals in three straight conference matches against Gardner-Webb, Lipscomb and Belmont and tallied the Owls lone goal in the first A-Sun tournament game before leaving the match with a torn ACL.

"This is quite a special achievement for Laura," boasted head coach Rob King. "She battled through injuries all season long and is one of the hardest working players I've had the pleasure of coaching. It is a most deserving honor."

Tucker was the lone A-Sun player to earn an all-region selection. She was also one of just 11 honorees out the 45 members selected to three all-region teams who were not from an SEC or ACC school.

Kennesaw State has had two players named to the All Southeast Region team in two years. Katrina Hirsch was named to the squad last season.
