Owls Oklahoma Bound
April 3, 2008
KENNESAW, Ga. - Coming off of a disappointing tenth place finish at the Larry Nelson Collegiate Invitational, the Kennesaw State women's golf team will look to finish its season strong with a good showing at the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic hosted by the University of Oklahoma in Norman on April 6-7. "It would be nice to finish the season with a strong showing in a deep field," said Kennesaw State head coach Rhyll Brinsmead. "We should gain some valuable experience playing in such a big-time event." It will be the first time the Owls have traveled west of the Mississippi since the season-opening Baja Invitational in Baja, Mexico where they finished second. It will also be KSU's first time at OU's inaugural event named after the former LPGA golfer and three-time U.S. Open champion. The Owls will face a loaded field in Norman, including a number of Big 12 powers. The host Sooners lead the field, coming in ranked No. 40 in Golfstat.com's latest poll. Iowa State (46), Southern Methodist University (74), and Baylor (85) all join Oklahoma as Big 12 teams in the field ranked in the top 100. "I am very proud of the team's overall effort this season," added Brinsmead. "Having only five players on the roster put added pressure on our women, and they have responded fairly well up to this point." Freshman, Jessica Tarbet, led the Black and Gold at the Larry Nelson, finishing in a tie for 20th. The Owls have posted three top five finishes this season, led by their second place finish at the Baja. It will be the Owls last event of the season, as they are not yet eligible for the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship. |
