Owls Take Top Prize at NCA Collegiate Summer Camp
Aug. 21, 2007 MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. - The 2007-08 season has begun exactly the way that the competitive cheer squad would have liked as the Owls were named the Camp Champions at the 2007 NCA Collegiate Summer Camp Competition at the Spring Maid Beach Resort this past weekend. The Owls captured the all-around title as they secured a score of 189 out of a possible 200 points, beating the likes of South Carolina, Air Force and Valdosta State, among others. "I was extremely impressed with our rookies and how well they performed," said head coach Felecia Mulkey. "The first day went a little rough for us, but with the leadership of the veterans on day two, our entire team stepped up and rose to the top." In addition to taking the overall team title, the Owls took first in the Division I Game Day Competition. The 45-second routine judged on crowd incorporation, individual team style and traditions and saw KSU finish ahead of South Carolina and Wright State, respectively. The Owls also finished third in the Rally Routine as they competed against All-Girl Division I squads. Unfortunately a minor bobble was all it took for Kennesaw State to finish behind South Carolina and Elon. "I couldn't be happier with the performances our girls put forth," added Mulkey. "If this past weekend is any indication, then we should have a great year. The Owls will take part in their first competition of the season when they host the Spirit of the South Regional on December 15 and 16. |
