Owls Fourth After Prelims

April 10, 2008

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. - The Kennesaw State competitive cheer team is currently in fourth place after the preliminary round of competition at the 2008 NCA & NDA Collegiate Cheer and Dance Championships.

After the preliminary round of the All-Girl Division I Championships, Kennesaw State stands behind Louisville, Maryland and North Carolina State as the teams head into tomorrow evening's final round.

"We didn't hit a perfect routine today," said head coach Felecia Mulkey." But, we did fairly well and the team is feeling good headed into tomorrow night`s competition."

The Owls had a sub-total score of 9.040 and were one of only three squads to have a sub-total over 9.0 after preliminaries. First-place Louisville (9.264) and second-place Maryland (9.207) were the only other squads to score over a nine. However, Kennesaw State had .65 in deductions to finish with a 8.390 score.

While the Owls suffered deductions on their stunts mainly, the Black and Gold scored well on their pyramids and basket tosses as they are in prime position to secure their third consecutive top three finish at the championships.

"While we didn't hit our stunts today, it's nothing we can't hit tomorrow," added Mulkey who is trying to crack the top two for the first time since becoming a Division I member in 2006.

Kennesaw State will compete tomorrow evening between 5:00 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. Action from the championships can accessed at www.varsity.com.
