Five Score in Double Figures as Lady Owls Down Lipscomb

NASHVILLE, Tennessee - February 18, 2006 - Five Kennesaw State players scored in double figures as the Lady Owls had their second-best offensive put-out of the season in a 87-79 victory over Lipscomb on Saturday afternoon.

Jennifer Baker led the way for Kennesaw State with 19 points on 5-of-17 shooting from the field. Danielle Bates pitched in 18, Nikki Gurley knocked down 4-of-6 three-pointers en route to 16 points for the Lady Owls.

Ashley Johnson added 14 and Shavonder Clarke scored 13 and grabbed 11 rebounds to propel KSU to their third conference win of the season.

KSU (4-19, 3-13 A-Sun) put forth an entire team effort, and used a 16-1 run with 11:40 to go in the first half to open 13 point lead. Baker scored 14 points and Bates chipped in 12 in the first 20 minutes, as the Lady Owls shot 57.1 percent and went to the locker room with a comfortable 54-37 lead.

Things kept going KSU's way in the second stanza, despite shooting just 22.6 percent (7-of-31). After Lipscomb (6-16, 5-11) closed the lead to within 12 points, the Lady Owls put together a quick 8-0 run on the strength of free throws by Clarke and two three-pointers by Nikki Gurley to extend the KSU margin to 67-47. Even though the Lady Owls cooled from that point, they were able to hang on down the stretch for the eight-point win.

Kaleigh Gossman recorded her own double-double after netting 18 points and 11 rebounds, and Dana Carrigan scored 17 for the Lady Bisons.

The Lady Owls will return to the KSU Convocation Center for their final two home games of the season, beginning on February 23 with a 7:00 p.m. match-up with Stetson.
