Nathan Haskins and Peikko Solla Lead Owls to Disney

Men Race to Orlando

Oct. 4, 2007

KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State men's cross country team returns to action this weekend as they travel to the 2007 Disney World Cross Country Classic. This highly competitive 8k race at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex promises to be one of the fastest and most entertaining events of the season.

Last week, the Owls (40-9) finished in sixth place as they ran in a packed field at the 2007 Tiger Invitational hosted by Auburn. At the event, sophomore Nathan Haskins paced the Owls with a personal best time for an 8k race (25:48.90).

This week the team travels to one of the most prestigious cross country meets in the South to run against teams from all over the country. In 2006, 30 schools competed in the event, with a similar size expected, Kennesaw State will be relying on veteran runners Michael Johnson, Matthew Auers and Peikko Solla to turn in their best performances of the season. Freshmen Piotr Witczak, Matteo DiCecco and Steven Murray are also looked upon to have a strong outing.

"This is going to be a big race for our guys," said head coach Stan Sims. "This is a relatively flat course and if they push themselves hard enough, they can easily have their best race of the season."

The men's 8k race will begin at 7:45 a.m.
