Tennis Complex Gets Makeover
May 2, 2007 KENNESAW, Ga. - The Kennesaw State Tennis Complex is in the midst of getting a much-needed face lift this spring as the eight-court, on-campus facility receives a makeover in preparation for the 2007-08 season. The complex, which has not hosted a match since the 2005 season, is currently the home to the Kennesaw State women's tennis team. In the future, with the recent addition of men's tennis as a sponsored sport beginning in 2008-09, the facility will be the primary home to both programs. The complex had not been resurfaced in over a decade. However, through a joint venture between the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics, Intramural Sports, Continuing Education and the Department of Health, Physical Education and Sport Science, the $30,000 project began this week and should be completed by June. "This is going to mean so much for tennis at Kennesaw State," said T.J. Greggs, Director of Tennis Operations. "This is not only important for our team, but also a huge step toward making our facility a place where the tennis community in Kennesaw can gather for recreational purposes, lessons, and to watch our varsity tennis matches." In addition to the new surface, the complex will feature new net posts, nets, windscreens, benches, scorecards and court signage. Recently, the KSU Department of Plant Operations completed the first project of the renovation, a refinishing and painting of the fences surrounding the courts. The courts are being patched and resurfaced by Talbot Tennis and should be completed over the next few weeks. Once the project is complete, the on-campus facility will host KSU women's tennis matches and will also allow the Kennesaw State intramurals program to increase the opportunity for students to participate in tennis. Additionally, the complex will be able to create additional lessons to be offered through Continuing Education and will offer HPS the ability to provide more classes for students. "We are extremely excited about the opportunity for the student body to see our team in action," added Greggs. "We hope that it helps to increase interest amongst the student body for intramural tennis and recreational tennis as well. This project is just one of many enhancements to our beautiful campus, and we are just excited to be a part of the tremendous growth at KSU." |
