FARMVILLE, Va. - Kris Shepherd took home individual medalist honors and helped the Kennesaw State men's golf team to a first-place finish at the Poplar Hill Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday.

Shepherd took top prize after finishing the 54-hole event with a final score of one-under, 215 (75-68-72). Helped by the tournament-low round of 68, the win is the second of his career and the first for Shepherd in the Owls' Division I era.

The Owls dominated the 13-team field with a final round score of 911. Host Longwood finished second, 14 strokes behind the Owls with a 925. James Madison (931), Liberty (939) and Temple (951) and Washington & Lee (951) rounded out the top five.

Junior Oliver West also secured a top-10 finish, tying for sixth place after shooting 229 (76-77-76). Freshman Michael Tulacz (77-75-83) and senior Zac Tilton (76-76-83) both finished tied for 13th with scores of 235, while junior Wesley Sheard was one stoke behind in 15th with a 236 (79-74-83).

The Owls will return to the course next week when they travel to the SeaScape Invitational hosted by Old Dominion University in Kitty Hawk, North Carolina.
