NEW YORK, N.Y. - The Owls hit the road this week as they travel to the Big Apple for the first time in school history as they will play in the Third Annual Tyler Ugolyn Columbia Classic hosted by Columbia University.

Kennesaw State (0-1) is coming off an opening night loss to Western Kentucky, but look to get back on track this weekend in the four-team tournament. The Owls will open the classic on Friday evening when they battle St. Peter's. KSU will then play either New Jersey Tech or Columbia on Saturday evening.

Regardless of who the Owls will play in the tournament, it will be the first-ever meeting between Kennesaw State and the rest of the field, which is comprised of teams from the metropolitan areas of New York and New Jersey.

St. Peter's (1-0), the Owls first opponent, is one of top mid-majors in the country. The Peacocks are fresh off their first season opening win since 1999 as they defeated the University of Maryland-Baltimore County, 67-56 last weekend.

The Lions, who were picked fifth in the preseason Ivy League polls, return all five starters from last year's squad. Columbia does not have a senior on this year's team and has six juniors who have to step in and assume the leadership responsibilities for the young squad. Even with 10 players that saw action in 2005-06 returning, the Lions are still a young team, with 10 first-years and sophomores.

Columbia is 1-1 this season after falling to Duke on opening night before downing UC-Davis, 95-90, in the consolation game of the CBS Classic Durham Regional.

New Jersey Tech is playing their first Division I season and had an impressive debut as they knocked off defending Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference regular season champion Manhattan, 56-55, on November 11 when Clayton Barker hit a layup with 31 seconds left in the game. The Highlanders also defeated Rider on Nov. 14 to remain unbeaten.
