Kennesaw State Signs Markeith Cummings

May 23, 2008

KENNESAW, Ga. - Kennesaw State head coach Tony Ingle has announced that Markeith Cummings has signed a National Letter of Intent to attend Kennesaw State University and play for the Owls beginning in the 2008-09 season in an announcement made this morning at the KSU Convocation Center.

"We are obviously excited to have a talented player like Markeith join our squad," said Ingle. "He gives us a good size wing guard and is probably the most athletic player we have signed in the recruiting period."

Cummings, who played for Beach High School in Savannah, Ga., comes to the Owls program after spending a year at Mendendall-Genesis One Prep in Mississippi.

Cummings led Beach HS to a 27-6 record and a berth in the AAAAA championship game in his junior year and followed with an impressive senior season in which he guided the Bulldogs to a 28-win season while leading them to the Elite Eight.

The six-foot-six-inch forward averaged 14.3 points per game and 5.3 rebounds during his senior season and was named to the Savannah Morning News First Team All-Greater Savannah Team. He also was selected to represent the South All-Stars in the GACA Boy's Basketball High School All-Star Game.

"Markeith plays well facing the basket and is a strong presence on the court," added Ingle. "Along with his good size, his strength and athletic ability will help him make a quicker adjustment to Division I basketball. He will eventually be a fan favorite once his experience catches up to his natural abilities."

A talented multi-sport player in high school, Cummings was recruited by several other Division I schools including Southern Mississippi, Houston, Ole Miss, Kansas State, Alabama-Birmingham, Texas El-Paso, Arkansas State and Murray State.
