Owls to Honor Three on Senior Day
Feb. 15, 2008
KENNESAW, Ga. - The Owls will play their home finale on Saturday evening as Kennesaw State will celebrate Senior Day 2008 before the Black and Gold hit the floor against Florida Gulf Coast. The Owls will honor Ronell Wooten, Shuan Stegall and Tony Ingle Jr. as Kennesaw State concludes its 2007-08 home slate. KSU was ensured of a winning season at home when they defeated Stetson on Thursday night for their seventh home victory of the year. The emotion-filled home finale will see KSU fans witness the final home game for two of the program's top-players and part of the cornerstone that helped transition Kennesaw State from Division II to Division I. In Wooten and Stegall, the Owls have enjoyed perhaps the most talented one-two combination in the Atlantic Sun Conference. Wooten is currently Kennesaw State's second all-time leading scorer and Stegall is quickly approaching the 1,000-point plateau. "Not only are these two extremely talented basketball players," boasted head coach Tony Ingle. "They are fine, young men of character." In addition, the Owls will also celebrate the contributions of manager Tony Ingle Jr. The son of head coach Tony Ingle, the second youngest of the Ingle clan is concluding his sixth season as the Owls senior manager. "Tony does so much for us you can't put it into words," added Ingle on his son. "He is here early in the morning and stays to all hours of the night, I don't know what would happen without him." The meeting is the second between the Eagles and the Owls. FGCU won the first meeting between the teams, defeating Kennesaw State, 85-73, on Jan. 19 in Fort Myers and snapping a three-game losing streak. Now, the Eagles (9-17, 5-7 A-Sun) enter the game have lost four of five games including their last two road games. Kennesaw State is entering the game playing well and getting significant contributions from a number of players including freshmen Tanner Jacobs and Kelvin McConnell and sophomores Jon-Michael Nickerson and Jonathan Whipple. Nickerson and McConnell have each led the Owls in scoring over the last three games and have helped KSU spread out the offense. Whipple, on the other hand, has been one of the most consistent defenders this season. The Senior Day Ceremony will begin at 7:30 p.m. The game can be seen on ASun.TV and can be heard on SuperTalk 1230/1340 with Craig Corbin and Scott Webb carrying the action. |
