KENNESAW, Ga.--Kennesaw State head baseball coach Mike Sansing is pleased to announce that seniors Ric Bishop and Wes Tignor have been named team captains for the upcoming season.

"Ric and Wes are two outstanding student-athletes and they are leaders on and off the field," said Coach Sansing. "I know that these two young men will do a tremendous job in this role for us this season."

"Being named captain is definitely an honor that I will take to heart and appreciate," said Bishop, a senior from Columbus, Ga. "I think the most humbling thing about it is being part of something that we all on the team believe and expect to be pretty special this season."

Tignor, a native of Hoschton, Ga., said, "It's a great honor to be named captain. Along with the responsibility that comes with being named captain, there is a great opportunity to help the team. With the returning talent from last year's team and the added depth of the new members of the team, I look forward to helping this team stay focused on the single goal of winning the Atlantic Sun Conference."

Both Tignor and Bishop have distinguished themselves in different ways. Last season during fall workouts, Tignor was awarded the first annual Iron Owl Pitcher Award, an award given to the pitcher who completed various physical challenges, such as an obstacle course, in the quickest time or with the most repititions. During the spring, Bishop was the team leader in runs batted in with 47 and led the Owls in batting average for over half of the season.

"I believe with the experience, talent, and character that this team has, we will set our ceiling for the season pretty high from day one," said Bishop.

Bishop, Tignor and the rest of the Owls are continuing fall season intrasquad scrimmages all this week. Thursday's game will start at 2:00 p.m. at Stillwell Stadium, with Friday's contest set for 11:00 a.m. Admission for all of the intrasquad games at Stillwell Stadium is free.
