Box Score

STATESBORO, Ga. - Brown scored seven runs in the second inning, defeating Kennesaw State 10-2 in Saturday's nightcap of the Eagle Invitational hosted by Georgia Southern.

Already trailing 2-0 after a Bryan Tews home run in the first, the trouble continued for the Owls (5-6) shortly after starter Bubba Blalock (0-3) got the Bears (1-2) third baseman Matt Nuzzo to fly out to center for the first out of the second inning.

Dan Shapiro started the onslaught with a single followed by a double Robert Papenhause. Blalock then issued two straight walks, before a groundout scored Papenhause.

Then the KSU defense let their right-hander down when Bryan Tews singled to Matt Dallas and then advanced when the Owls' third-baseman threw the ball away, allowing two runs to score and ending Blalock's night. When it was all said and done, the Fort Valley, Georgia native had allowed five hits and seven earned runs in just an inning and two-thirds of work.

Cacey Rogers, in relief, gave up three runs on six hits in 4.1 innings but struck out a season-high 11 Bears.

Dallas scored the Owls' only runs in the bottom of the ninth when his double to left center scored Matt Hopkins and Daniel Hester.

Jacob Robbins extended his consecutive hit streak to 27 games as he went 2-for-5, while Jace Whitmer and Jerome Wooley also had two hits apiece.

Tews and Deitz finished with two hits and three RBI apiece. Five Bears in all had two hits as Brown out-hit the Owls 14-11. Will Weidig (1-0) allowed six hits in six scoreless innings.

The Eagle Invitational concludes Sunday with Brown playing the Owls at 11 a.m., followed by Georgia Southern and KSU starting at 2:30 p.m.
